Carvas (en francés: Carves) es una comuna d'Occitània, dins la region istorica de Perigòrd, administrada per lo departament de Dordonha de la region de Novèla Aquitània, ancianament d'Aquitània.

Toponimia
La prononciacion actuala es [‘karβɒ] [1].
Las atestacions ancianas son de mal interpretar: Vicaria de Cauves, en 1153, Carvas, au sègle XII, Caraves, en 1344, Carvis, en 1372. Albèrt Dauzat, Chantal Tanet e Tristan Hordé explican lo nom per (tucas o tèrras) calvas [2],[3] (-l- de la primièra sillaba auriá trantolat entre vocalizacion en -u- o rotacizacion en -r-). Una autra possibilitat seriá benlèu lo preceltic *kar (pèira, ròc) + sufixe collectiu –avum [1].

Administracion
- Abans la refòrma cantonala de 2014, aplicada en 2015, la comuna èra del canton de Belvés; es adara del canton de Vallée Dordogne (en francés), donc de Val Dordonha.
