Telonemia je grupa ili rod jednoćelijskih protista iz porodice Tingidae, mikroskopskih dimenzija,[1] evolucijski značajna kao moguća prelazna grupa između heterotrofnih i fotosintetskih oblika supergrupe SAR.[2][3] Iako su proučavane prvenstveno u morskim sredinama, pronađene su i u slatkoj vodi.Opisano ih je najmanje 80 vrsta.[4][5][6]

Vrste grupe Telonemia su grabežljivci, koji se hrane u širokom rasponu bakterija i piko- i nano- fitoplanktona. Upotreba PCR (lančana reakcija polimeraze) otkriva da je različitost uzoraka zavisno od okoliša mnogo veća od one dobijene ranijim metodima.

Rasprostranjeni su globalno u morskim vodama, a njihovi genetički podaci su uobičajeni u prethodno pohranjenim bankama gena. Njihovo evolucijsko porijeklo rekonstruirano je na temelju filogenetskih odnosa. okolišnih i kultiviranih oblika.

Kombinirano istraživanje sekvenci aminokiselina smješta ih u supergrupu SAR,[7] dok ih filogenetska analiza sa 127 gena stavlja pored Centrohelida u Hacrobia.[8] Konačno, studija o 248 gena Telonemia svrstava u sestrinsku skupinu SAR-a, pa je predložena nova supergrupa pod nazivom TSAR, koja bi obuhvatila obje.[9]
