Ο NGC 939 είναι φακοειδής ή ελλειπτικός γαλαξίας στον αστερισμό Ηριδανό. Εκτιμάται πως απέχει 241 εκατομμύρια έτη φωτός από τον Γαλαξία μας[3] και πως έχει διάμετρο περίπου 80 χιλιάδων ετών φωτός. Ανακαλύφθηκε στις 18 Οκτωβρίου 1835 από τον αστρονόμο Τζον Χέρσελ (John Herschel).[5][6]

Η παρατήρησή του είναι καλύτερη από το Νότιο ημισφαίριο εξαιτίας της θέσης του νοτίως του ουράνιου ισημερινού.[7]
