Ο NGC 782 είναι ραβδωτός σπειροειδής γαλαξίας ο οποίος βρίσκεται στον αστερισμό Ηριδανό και απέχει περίπου 160 εκατομμύρια έτη φωτός από τον Γαλαξία μας.[3] Ανακαλύφθηκε από τον αστρονόμο Τζων Χέρσελ (John Herschel) το 1834.[5][6]

Υπερκαινοφανής

Στις 9 Ιουλίου 2011 ανακαλύφθηκε στον γαλαξία αυτόν υπερκαινοφανής τύπου Ia που ονομάστηκε SN 2011eb. Η θέση του ήταν 29″ δυτικά και 34″ νότια από τον γαλαξιακό πυρήνα.[7]
