Ο NGC 840 είναι ραβδωτός σπειροειδής γαλαξίας στον αστερισμό Κήτος. Εκτιμάται πως απέχει περίπου 300 εκατομμύρια έτη φωτός από τον Γαλαξία μας[3] και πως έχει διάμετρο της τάξεως των 175 χιλιάδων ετών φωτός.[6][7][8]
