Pasukan Battōtai

Battōtai (抜刀隊, Resimen Pedang) adalah sebuah kelompok polisi khusus yang dibentuk di Jepang oleh pemerintahan Meiji pada tahun 1877 ketika Pemberontakan Satsuma terjadi.[1][2] Pasukan ini dipersenjatai dengan pedang Jepang, katana, dan berhasil mengalahkan faksi pemberontak dalam Pertempuran Tabaruzaka. Keberhasilan mereka dalam pertempuran pedang menuntun menuju ketertarikan yang baru dalam kenjutsu, yang telah diabaikan selama berlangsungnya restorasi Meiji, yang kemudian menghasilkan kendo dalam dunia modern.[3][4][5][6][7]
