Vença[1] (Vence en francés) es una comuna d'Occitània, en Provença, situada dins lo departament dei Aups Maritims e la region de Provença-Aups-Còsta d'Azur.
Geografia
Toponimia
Lo nom portat en títol e donat per Laurenç Revest, Vença, amé e barrada, sembla l'adaptacion dau nom que eu-meteis fornís en grafia mistralenca, Venço; çaquelà, Mistral escriu Vènço, amé è dobèrta[2]. Normalament, en provençau -en s'articula [-ɛn] per subrevolucion e fau benlèu comprene Vènço.
Dauzat e Rostaing citan d'atestacions ancianas : Ouintion (sègle II), Vensiensis episcopus (442), a Ventio (585), Ventia (sègle XII, en latin). Per leis autors, puslèu que un nom d'òme latin Vencius o una divinitat locala Vintius, Vença/Vènça representa un tèma preceltic vĭn-t, « nautor », qu'explica tanben los noms de montanhas Ventor e Venturi[3].
Per Xavier Delamarre, la fòrma d'origina es uintion, la proprietat dau dieu Vintios (lo tèma *uintio- es celtic); lo nom amé sa finala nasala es lo denominatiu neutre d'un teonime atestat per d'inscripcions, Vintius. L'autor se pronóncia pas sus leis montanhas Venturi e Ventor [4].
