Suspèr[1] (Sospel en francés) es una comuna occitana dau Comtat de Niça, situada dins lo departament dei Aups Maritims e la region de Provença-Aups-Còsta d'Azur.
Geografia
Suspèr es situat a 20 km de Menton, a aperaquí 350 m d'altitud, a las pòrtas dau parc nacional de Mercantor. Amb lo sieu celèbre Pont vièlh de peatge, un pont fortificat datant dau sègle XIII, un daus darrièrs d'Euròpa, Susper es un borg medieval en riba de Beura.
Toponimia
A passat temps, l’article salat èra mai espandit en Pais Niçard e la tendéncia d’adaptar l’article en foncion de la varietat d’occitan utilizada : lo nom de Sospèl ven dau latin Cœspitellu; la forma anciana èra Cespeèl <Cespeel> (atestada en 1157: Dauzat & Rostaing 1963. 662); Fulcònis (1562) l’interpretèt en S’Espèl* e l’adaptèt instintivament en L’Espèl*.
