Castelar [1][2] (Castellar en francés) es una comuna occitana dau Comtat de Niça, situada dins lo departament dei Aups Maritims e la region de Provença-Aups-Còsta d'Azur.

Castelar es atestat en 1257, Castellar. Lo nom es format de castèl, del latin castellum (< castrum) ambe'l sufixe -ar, del latin -are [3]; lo sens del sufixe seriá « lo luòc », doncas pel nom entièr « lo luòc del castèl » [4].
Istòria
Administracion
- de 1793 a (1815 ?) la comuna èra del canton de Menton, de 1818 a 1860, èra del mandament de Sospel (Sospello); de 1860 a 1997, èra tornamai del canton de Menton; de 1997 a la refòrma cantonala de 2014, aplicada en 2015, la comuna èra del canton de Menton-èst; es ara del canton de Menton.
