Lo mot plan es la fòrma d'origina de çò que se ditz ara planòl, replanat, plana, planèr o planada. Es sovent present en toponimia lengadociana, escrit plo e es demorat viu en catalan. Ven del latin planum [5]. Coma per Al Pug, la fòrma ambe l'article contractat a remplaçat la fòrma d'origina ambe l'article definit masculin : lo sintagma al plan, utilizat dins de frasas coma vau al Plan, s'es fixat dins lo nom del vilatge.
