Notice

The file File:Southern Circus.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Orphaned non-free file

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Orphaned non-free image File:Southern Circus.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Southern Circus.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of non-free use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:41, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for improving article quality in June! - I heard this music, yesterday, - streamed a day before at a different location. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:41, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

While you are of course invited to check out my recommendations any day, today offers unusually a great writer of novels, music with light and a place with exquisite food. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:47, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I commented against the tag you placed on the Endangered Species Act 1973 page

Hello. I saw the warning tag you placed today on the ESA 1973 page and am grateful you encouraged comment on your decision on the ESA 1973 talk page, which I have done. Below I am pasting in what I wrote there:

Here is the edit that happened today by a new editor to this page: 18:53, 23 June 2025 Fakescientist8000 talk contribs m  328,567 bytes +29  Added {{Very long}} tag undothank Tag: Twinkle

What shows now at the top of the page for ALL TO SEE is this warning:

This article may be too long to read and navigate comfortably. Consider splitting content into sub-articles, condensing it, or adding subheadings. Please discuss this issue on the article's talk page. (June 2025)

I request others to comment on that warning, as I vote for its removal. I have been working on this page for two years, and now account for 70% of the entire word count. I am a retired science writer (4 books in evolutionary ecology), and I was thereby able to vastly upscale the content and reliability of this page by using a lot of academic science papers and law review articles as references. I began this editing because of the 50th anniversary of the ESA of 1973 that happened in Dec 2023. After the 2024 presidential election, I stepped up again by providing an even more thorough account of the new section I added in 2023: "Challenges and Controversies." Yes, it is very long, but I used a lot of SUBSECTION HEADS (28) so that each block of text was relatively short and inviting to read. I also enhanced the visual readability by using blockquotes and especially by inputting one or more useful images for almost every subsection. As well, the standard wikipedia TOC enables prospective readers to easily see the complete list of all headings, and thereby decide which part they need to read. And I do mean "need" to read. More than ever before, this globally known conservation law is being reconsidered, based on the challenges and controversies that have arisen over 5 decades of implementation. Especially because of the quality and thoroughness of the references, I believe this wikipedia page is the best place for anyone reconsidering the Act to begin their own inquiry. And I am proud of my work in ensuring that controversial topics are made known and revealed in the fullness of their view range — which in itself helps the reader understand that addressing the longstanding problems and divisive issues requires more than mere surface understandings. Administrators' newsletter – August 2025

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case Indian military history has been closed.
    • South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as All pages related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups.
    • The contentious topic designations for Sri Lanka (SL) and India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (IPA) are folded into this new contentious topic.
    • The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.
  • The arbitration case Article titles and capitalisation 2 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 31 July.
  • The arbitration case Transgender healthcare and people has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 11 August.

image uploads

Hi, Fakescientist8000, please stop uploading non-free images of living people. Per WP:NFC#UUI, images of living people will virtually never be considered irreplaceable by a free alternative, since a free picture could be taken while they are still alive. Thanks, Writ Keeper  01:37, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Writ Keeper, thank you for letting me know and I will do. It is quite frustrating (and yet equally understandable) why that is in place, knowing it's incredible unlikely to have free images of those folks online. Alas, what are we to do? Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 02:28, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Fakescientist8000

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Veko, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Samantha Fuller, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Veko}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Arbitration

  • After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Hi @Bait30. Thanks for asking me! In general, the article had not been updated in over a year by that point, so any statistics regarding the amount of commercials or the overall popularity of the commercials would be outdated. Your changing of my Request Move target name without making anyone aware

Hi,

Can I ask that you refrain from repeating this in the future[1]. It's already confused people. Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:22, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Rambling Rambler I would love to; however, may I inform you that the surname allotted to the British royal family has the hyphen in it, for future reference. Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 20:56, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That may be how it's officially written in other instances, but as of right now in both primary and secondary sources it's been specifically written without the hyphen. Rambling Rambler (talk) 20:57, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alas, WP:COMMONNAME shows us that the hyphenated version is used in almost all contexts, when needed, by reliable sources. One announcement from the King does not change that. Happy Halloween, should you celebrate. Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 17:02, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template. — Newslinger talk 11:01, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fakescientist8000, Wikipedia:Contentious topics § Awareness of contentious topics requires the exact template above to be posted on your user talk page as your first contentious topic alert. Please also be aware of the following contentious topics, which you have recently participated in:
Thank you. — Newslinger talk 11:01, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Newslinger. Thank you for the message on my talk page. I understand that you are an admin, and thus messages like these are likely a dime a dozen for you. However, I must point out that:
1) I am extended confirmed, and have been for quite some time
2) I have over 15,000 edits and continue to increase that count by the day, and
3) I have been editing for over 5 years at this point
Therefore, it is my conclusion that I have a decent and fairly deep understanding of contentious Wikipedia topics and the struggles with consistency on them. Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 11:18, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's good that you are familiar with these procedures. If you would like to opt out of future alerts about other contentious topics (which may take the form of a template or a custom message), please feel free to apply the {{Contentious topics/aware}} template to this page specifying the topics that your opt-out would apply to. (Unfortunately, this template is not yet compatible with community-authorized sanctions at this time.) — Newslinger talk 11:24, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Newslinger Thank you for this. I will be doing that shortly. Cheers, atque supra! Fakescientist8000 11:28, 3 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). WikiCup 2026 March newsletter

The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table will be updated within the next few days.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! WikiCup 2026 May newsletter

The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP. Peer reviews, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
  • The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
  • Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
  • Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
  • The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
