Las fòrmas ancianas son Capianum, en latin, sense data, parrochia de Capian, en 1273, cappella de Capiano, en latin, en 1361 [3]. Capian vendré dau nom gallés Cappios (o en fòrma latina, lo nomen Cappius), damb lo sufixe latin -anum, o gallés -anon (per Negre, citat per Bénédicte Boyrie-Fénié, lo nom Cappianus, sense sufixe)[4],[3],[5]. Capian èra donc probablament una anciana granda propietat antica qu'avèva per mèste Cappios / Cappius.
