Augustus Newnham DICKENS (10a de novembro 1827 – 4a de oktobro 1866) estis la plej juna frato de angla romanisto Charles Dickens, kaj la inspiro por la plumnomo de Charles kiel 'Boz'.
Fakte la unua kolekto de pecoj de Charles, publikigita en 1836: nome Sketches by Boz uzis Boz kiel familia kromnomo kiun li uzis kiel pseŭdonimo dum kelkaj jaroj.[1][2] Dickens ŝajne adoptis ĝin el la kromnomo "Moses", kiun li uzis por sia pli juna frato Augustus, laŭ rolulo de la verko de Oliver Goldsmith nome The Vicar of Wakefield. Prononcita de iu kun kataro, "Moses" iĝas "Boses" — poste mallongigita kiel Boz.[2][3]
En 1845 kaj 1847, Augustus ludis en amatoraj teatraĵoj de Charles Dickens dum plue laboris por komerca entrepreno Chapman & Co. En 1855 li aliĝis al framasonismo.
Poste, kiam lia edzino blindiĝis, Augustus malmorale abandonis ŝin, kaj translokiĝis al Ĉikago en Usono kun Bertha Phillips (1827–1868),[4][5][6] filino de James Phillips, angla advokato. Ili vivis kune kiel eksterjuraj geedzoj.[7]
