Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Computing
| Points of interest related to Computing on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to Computing. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Computing|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Computing. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

- Keep – I'm seeing enough coverage (and over a long-enough time period) to justify keeping this article, although the article needs significant cleanup. A 2015 cover story in Linux Magazine,[1] a conference paper,[2] two paragraphs of description in another conference paper[3], some discussion in this cited but not yet published pre-print,[4] and another conference paper.[5] Less useful sources: undergraduate thesis[6], some security vulnerability reports.[7][8]Suriname0 (talk) 19:29, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
- To add a small bit of editorializing: this is not a slam-dunk keep. The best sources imo are the Linux Magazine article and the CompSysTech conference paper, which is why I voted keep. I don't see any academic mentions in the best venues; for example, any discussion in ACM SIGSAC, IEEE S&P, or USENIX papers. Hopefully others can surface sourcing from more reliable publishers. Cheers, Suriname0 (talk) 19:40, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

- Merge to Procedural generation#In video games. This topic has the problem that no sources cover the topic at this granularity. All sources either discuss seeds as one aspect in the more general context of procedural map generation, or specific seeds for specific video games. ~ A412 talk! 05:17, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
- Merge to Procedural generation#In video games per WP:OVERLAP and WP:NOPAGE. If spun out, a better article would be Procedural generation in video games rather than something as overly specific as "map seed". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 12:07, 4 June 2026 (UTC)

None of the existing references in this article provide significant coverage in reliable, independent sources of this person. They are either self-published sources (Linked In), ones connected with him (interviews, pieces published by places he has worked or volunteered, speaker lists), or passing mentions. I have carried out WP:BEFORE, and added a review of one of his books, but I cannot find more coverage to add. I was surprised, and wonder if I have missed other coverage which would demonstrate that he meets WP:NAUTHOR; but as the article has been tagged with notability concerns since 2022, I thought best to bring it to the community. No obvious redirect target. The article only has two incoming links, and these both relate to a Rex Black who has stood as a political candidate; I can't find a reliable source to confirm that this is the same person. Fails WP:ANYBIO & WP:SIGCOV. Exec vanity page. Vast majority of the sources are press releases on company websites, like Novo Nordisk Foundation. No significant independent third-party coverage. Passing references in other articles where the subject is not the focus. Occasional copy & paste press release in trade publication, but no more than any other bog standard exec. Not seeing any depth of content on Google News. Added a week ago and strange submission process: appears to be a 'translation' from Simple Wiki, where Notability is not policed so much? Raises some CoI concerns, but aware this doesn't necessarily impact on Notability. In any case, doesn't appear to pass SIGCOV benchmark. Ichigostar2007 (talk) 21:21, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Previous discussion ended in delete, although participation was not extremely high. I don't see much sign of GNG here. WP:NPROF is more plausible, but I only see two highly cited works (both with a higher number of coauthors). I think that restoring the previous redirect would be a good outcome here: it looks like a WP:BIO1E situation to me. Bringing here for a consensus. Remark that it appears that the article creator had a close professional connection with the subject, and (although not a reason for deletion) WP:COI may be relevant. - Keep — I would assert that he is notable under WP:NACADEMIC 1. The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources, as demonstrated by the number of books that acknowledge his seminal contributions to formal methods, specifically the Z notation and B-Method (e.g., see refs [8,11,13,14]). —Jonathan Bowen (talk) 21:11, 1 June 2026 (UTC) — Note to closing admin: Jpbowen (talk • contribs) is the creator of the page that is the subject of this XfD.
- Delete. Fails to prove a pass of either WP:NPROF or WP:GNG. For NPROF#C1 we need strong independent evidence which is normally by citations to his work. According to Scopus his h-factor is 4 with 390 cites which is really low, and does not show what we expect. The other way would be by major awards such as being elected as an IEEE Fellow; again no evidence. If more specifics are added I might change my vote.Ldm1954 (talk) 10:13, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Ldm1954: Scopus is a really bad choice for computer science because it indexes journals and the bulk of the important computer science publications are in conferences. See the final bullet point of WP:PROF. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:54, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. Despite my quibbles over methodology above I agree with Ldm1954. A small number of well-cited papers on which he is one of multiple coauthors (regardless of which database one uses) does not support a pass of WP:PROF#C1, and neither does the description of his supporting rather than leading role in our articles B-Method and Z notation which both give much more credit to Jean-Raymond Abrial. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:58, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

- I believe there is more significant coverage of Herndon than simple passing mentions in company articles.
- Some of the stronger sources include:
- Time Extension's in-depth interview with Herndon discussing the design, engineering, and development of the Chromatic handheld. The article is centered on Herndon and his work as CEO and lead engineer, rather than merely quoting him in passing.
- Wired's feature on the ModRetro Chromatic, which identifies Herndon as CEO and lead engineer and discusses his engineering philosophy, previous work at Oculus and Anduril, and role in the development of the hardware. The article contains substantial commentary from Herndon and coverage of his contributions to the project.
- Popular Mechanics' review and feature on the Chromatic, which includes a discussion with Herndon regarding the company's goals, preservation philosophy, product strategy, and the development of the platform. The article specifically identifies him as CEO, co-founder, and engineer.
- Additional coverage discussing Herndon's career and leadership role can be found in Observer's reporting on ModRetro, which notes his previous engineering work at Oculus and Anduril and his leadership of the company.
- I agree that routine announcements or brief quotes would not establish notability by themselves. However, the sources above provide substantive coverage of Herndon's career, engineering work, and leadership responsibilities rather than merely mentioning him in passing. Pubmixwiki (talk) 22:05, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- An interviews is just a transcript of things he said.
- The Wired story mentions him 4 times, each time just repeating things he said.
- Popular Mechanics is another interview. Same case as above, no coverage about him, just re-stating his own words.
- Observer mentions him once.
- All passing mentions and interviews. JTtheOG (talk) 22:16, 31 May 2026 (UTC)

- Proposed merge of Zombie (computing) into Botnet § Zombie computer
I propose merging Zombie (computing) into Botnet (into the existing “Zombie computer” subsection). The Zombie article largely describes an individual compromised machine that is remotely controlled and used for activities such as spam and DDoS attacks. The Botnet article already covers this concept more thoroughly.
The standalone article also substantially overlaps with Botnet in its discussion of spam, DDoS attacks, remote control, and unaware device owners. Joe (talk) 15:00, 30 May 2026 (UTC)

This article only cites a single paper in an IET journal – the one that introduced the titular algorithm. While I did find some other mentions of the algorithm in the scientific literature, they don't strike me as very significant. One builds off the algorithm (Liu 2020), one evaluates the algorithm (Nogami 2023), and four mention it as prior work before introducing a new algorithm intended to supercede it it some way (El Bayoumi Harb 2014, Kang 2014, Ousguine 2017, Marsh 2018). I haven't seen any specific guidance for the notability of algorithms, but my feeling is that it ought to have sources that describe it as significant in the field or show that it's used somewhere. - Keep - the argument that the article is too short is not a valid reason for deletion per WP:TOOLITTLE. Short stubs don't merit deletion just because they are short. The deletion rationale should be based on the results of a WP:BEFORE to check for notability. That being said, I see he has a Google Scholar profile with an h-index of 45 [3], with a big spike in 2025; his citations could arguably indicate that he has had / continues to have a significant impact in his field, which satisfies WP:NPROF#C1. [6] -- my understanding is that each of these is a selective & prestigious academic award that satisfies WP:NPROF#C2. And, as MovesandTelevsionFan said, he's a named chair his university, which satisfies WP:NPROF#C5. So based on this, I say he's notable, and it's just a matter of adding more content to the article. - Speedy keep WP:SK3 totally erroneous nomination statement provides no valid rationale for deletion and does not even refer to any notability standard let alone the correct one (WP:PROF). I propose redirecting to Moving block because the article subject doesn't appear to meet WP:GNG, is largely unsourced, and mostly just lists systems which supposedly utilize it. It appears to just be largely WP:FANCRUFT. OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 08:05, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
