Kirando ist ein Verwaltungsbezirk (englisch Ward) des Distrikts Nkasi in der tansanischen Region Rukwa.

Geografie

Kirando ist ein ländlicher Bezirk im Westen des südlichen Hochlands von Tansania. Er liegt am Tanganjikasee etwa 120 Kilometer Luftlinie nordwestlich der Regionshauptstadt Sumbawanga. Von der flachen Küste in rund 800 Meter Seehöhe steigt das Land nach Osten gebirgig auf bis zu 2000 Meter an.[2] Bei der Volkszählung 2022 lebten 20.208 Menschen in 4323 Haushalten[3] auf einer Fläche von 150 Quadratkilometern.[4]

Der Bezirk grenzt im Westen an den Tanganjikasee und sonst an drei Bezirke des Distrikts Nkasi:[5]

Wirtschaft und Infrastruktur

  • Bildung: Die Kirando Secondary School ist eine staatliche weiterführende Schule für Mädchen und Burschen bis zur 4. Stufe.[7]
  • Gesundheit: In der Gemeinde Kamwanda liegt ein staatliches Gesundheitszentrum.[8]
  • Hafen: Kirando ist einer der von der Tansanischen Hafenbehörde verwalteten Häfen am Tanganjikasee.[9]
