Mali EDRK-bogati faktor 2 je protein koji je kod ljudi kodiran genom SERF2.[5][6]

Gross (2014) mapirao je gen SERF2 na hromosomu 15q15.3, na osnovu poravnanja sekvence SERF2 (GenBank AF073298) sa genomskom sekvencom (GRCh37).[7]

Dužina polipeptidnog lanca je 59 aminokiselina, a molekulska težina 6.900 Da.[8].

Kloniranje i ekspresija

Koristeći komparativnu genomiku, sekvenciranje BAC koji sadrži Smn miša i pretraživanje baze podataka EST, praćeno PCR bibliotekom cDNK mozga miša i ljudskog skeletnih mišića, Scharf et al. (1998) izolirali su cDNK koje kodiraju H4F5 (SERF1) i H4F5REL (SERF2). Analizom sekvence utvrđeno je da SERF2 kodira izvedeni 59-aminokiselinski protein koji ima 69% aminokiselinskog identiteta sa SERF1. SERF2 je visoko nabijeni heliks-okret-heliks protein sa 33% ostataka ili lys ili arg, što sugerira ulogu u vezivanju nukleinskih kiselina.[9]
