Ovaj gen kodira transmembranski signalni adapter koji sadrži YxxM motiv u svojoj citoplazmatskom domenu. Kodirani protein može činiti dio kompleksa receptora imunskog prepoznavanja sa receptorom sličnim lektinu C tipa NKG2D. Kao dio ovog receptorskog kompleksa, ovaj protein može aktivirati signalne puteve ovisne o fosfatidilinozitol 3-kinazi, preko svog intracitoplazmatskog motiva YxxM.
Ovaj receptorski kompleks može imati ulogu u preživljavanju i proliferaciji ćelija, aktivacijom odgovora NK i T-ćelija. Alternativna prerada rezultira u dvije varijante transkripta, koji kodiraju različite izoforme.[6]
