Funkcija

Ovaj gen kodira protein koji pripada gliceraldehid-3-fosfat dehidrogenaza, enzima koji imaju važnu ulogu u metabolizmu ugljikohidrata. Pored ispoljavanja u somatskim ćelijama, ovaj enzim specifičan za spermu, djekuje na nikotinamid adenin-dinukleotid – u zavisnosti od uklanjanja vodika i dodavanja fosfata u gliceraldehid 3-fosfat, da bi se formirao 1,3-difosfoglicerat . Tokom spermiogeneze, ovaj enzim može imati važnu ulogu u regulaciji prebacivanja između različitih puteva za proizvodnju energije, a potreban je za pokretljivost spermatozoida i plodnost muškaraca.[6]

U melanocitnim ćelijama, ekspresija gena GAPDHS može se regulirati pomoću transkripcijskim faktorom povezanim sa mikroftalmijom (MITF).[7]
