Funkcija
CHMP5 pripada porodici hromatin-modificirajućih proteina/porodica nabijenih multivazikulskih tjelesnih proteina (CHMP). Ovi proteini su komponente ESCRT-III (kompleks endosomnog sortiranja potreban za transport III), kompleksa uključenog u razgradnju površinskih receptorskih proteina i formiranje endocitnih multivezikulnih tijela (MVB). Neki CHMP-i imaju i jedarnu i citoplazmatsku/vezikulnu raspodjelu, a jedan takav CHMP, CHMP1A, potreban je i za stvaranje MVB-a i za regulaciju progresije ćelijskog ciklusa.[6][8]
