WebKit быў створаны на аснове бібліятэк KHTML і KJS ад KDE і з тых часоў быў дапрацаваны ўдзельнікамі KDE, Apple, Google, Nokia, Bitstream, BlackBerry, Sony і іншымі. WebKit падтрымлівае macOS, Windows, Linux і іншыя Unix-падобныя аперацыйныя сістэмы. 3 красавіка 2013 г.
