Mayhem — нарвежскі блэк-металічны гурт, утвораны ў 1983 годзе. З'яўляюцца аднымі з заснавальнікаў стылю і сімвалам true black metal. Гурт набыў статус культавага пасля таго як загінулі яе ідэйныя лідары - вакаліст Пер Інгве Олін, таксама вядомы пад псеўданімам Дэд (8 красавіка 1991 г. ён здзейсніў самазабойства) і гітарыст Эйстэн Орсет, таксама вядомы пад псеўданімам Еўранімус, які быў забіты Варгам Вікернесам 10 жніўня 1993 года. Пасля выдання свайго першага поўнафарматнага альбома De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994) гурт распаўся і быў адроджаны ў 1995 годзе Hellhammer'ам, Maniac'ам, Necrobutcher'ам і Blasphemer'ам. У новым складзе Mayhem адышлі ад класічнага блэк-металу; іх пазнейшыя працы з'яўляюцца аднымі з першых узораў таго, што пазней назавуць "пост-блэк-метал".
