Maya
Ang maya (Ingles: tree sparrow) ay ang pangkalahatang katawagan sa maraming uri ng ibon sa Pilipinas.[1]
Pinakamadalas maturingang "maya" ang Mayang Simbahan (Passer montanus o Eurasian Tree Sparrow)[2] sapagkat ito ang espesye na pinakamadalas makita sa mga lungsod at iba pang mataong lugar, ngunit ang mayang simbahan ay isang espesyeng iniangkat mula sa Europa, at may ilang uri pa ng pipit na tinutukoy ng pangalang "maya".
Partikular, tinutukoy sa aklat na "A Guide to the Birds of the Philippines" ni Robert S. Kennedy, ang Mayang pula (Lonchura_atricapilla) bilang espesye ng maya na kinilalang pambansang ibon ng Pilipinas, hindi ang Mayang simbahan.[3] (Sa kasalukuyan, ang pambansang ibon ng Pilipinas ay ang Haribon).

Ilan sa mga uri ng pipit na tinaguriang "maya" ay ang:
- Mayang pula o (Lonchura atricapilla, dating tinuturing na subspesye ng Lonchura malacca at tinatawag ding Mayang bungol)[2][4]
- Mayang simbahan (Passer montanus o Eurasian Tree Sparrow)[2]
- Mayang bato (Lonchura leucogastra o White-bellied Munia)[2]
- Mayang costa (Padda oryzivora)[2][5]
- Mayang paking (Lonchura punctulata)[6]
- minsan ay natatawag ding "Maya" ang Oriolus steerii, na may wastong pangalang antolihao sa salitang Cebuano, at Philippine Oriole sa Ingles; wala itong wastong pangalan sa salitang Tagalog sapagkat likas lamang itong natatagpuan sa mga gubat ng Masbate, Samar, Leyte, Negros, Bohol, Mindanao, Basilan at Kapuluang Sulu.
