Sumatra
Sumatra es una illa a l'oèst d'Indonesia, la pus occidentala de las Illas de la Sonda. Es la pus granda illa entièrament situada en Indonesia (doas illas importantas, Bornèo e Nòva Guinèa, son parcialament en Indonesia), e la seisena del mond per la superfícia (aperaquí 470 000 km²).
Lo punt culminant de l'illa es lo Mont Kerinci, a 3805 m. Las divisions administrativas de l'illa son: Aceh, Bengkulu, Jambi, Lampung, Riau, Sumatra de l'oèst, Sumatra del sud, Sumatra del Nòrd. La vila mai poblada de l'illa es Medan amb una populacion de 2 392 922 personas. La populacion totala de l'illa es de 45 milions de personas (2005). Los principals grops etnics son: los acehnés, los bataks, los minangkabaus, e los malais.
