Lo nom es atestat alh sègle XVI, eccl. Moledas. Seriá format delh latin mola (o de son eiretèir occitan mòla) e delh sufixe latin etam (o de son resultat -eda)[3]. L'IEO Cantal escriu Molèdas[2], mas Cristian Omelhièr dona Moledas,[1] amb una finala que sembla normala per l'eiretèir del sufixe -eta(m).
