La prononciacion qu'ei [lyˈbːũŋ][2] o [li'bbuŋ]. Las fòrmas ancianas que son apud Lucbon en 1274, capellanus de Luco Bono, en latin, en 1370, ecclesia de Lucobono, en latin, en 1370 [3].
Per Dauzat, lo nom que vien deu latin lucus, « bòsc sacrat » e deu latin bonus, « bon, consacrat » [4].
Negre e Astor, citats per Bénédicte Boyrie-Fénié, que disen la medisha causa shens passar peu latin : luc, « bòsc » e bon, donc « bon bòsc » [3].
Lo nom pausa pas de problèmas d'interpretacion. La fonetica qu'ei marcada per dus caractèrs : l'assimilacion (anciana) de [k] per [b], lo passatge de [y] a [i] dens un nom compausat, com a Lipostèir [3].
