La Serpent (en francés tanplan coma en occitan) es una comuna lengadociana, situada dins lo departament d'Aude e la region d'Occitània, ancianament de Lengadòc-Rosselhon.

Toponimia
Las fòrmas ancianas son Castrum de Serpente, en latin, en 1319, La Serpente, en 1581, La Serpent, en 1594, La Serpant, en 1647 [1]. Seriá un nom d'animal, segon Dauzat e Rostaing [2] e lo pichon Levy nòta serpen, substantiu masculin e femenin, « serpent » (en francés, doncas sèrp en occitan). Mes la motivacion d'aquel nom es escura.

Administracion
- Abans la refòrma cantonala de 2014, aplicada en 2015, la comuna èra del canton de Coisan; es ara del canton de de La Val Nauta d'Aude (Quilhan).
