Fortaleza es la capitala de l'estat brasilièr de Ceará. Segon lo recensament de 2022, sa populacion totala èra 2 428 678 abitants[1]. Sa superfícia totala es 313 km².

Foguèt fondada en 1649 pels neerlandeses, amb lo nom de Schoonenborch. Actualament es un important centre industrial, comercial, de servicis e de torisme del Nòrd-èst brasilièr. Sa pòrt, Mucuripe, es un dels pus importants pòrts de Brasil.

Fortaleza es la capitala brasilièra pus pròcha d'Euròpa, ed es importanta destin toristic. L'Universitat Federala de Ceará (UFCE) e l'Universitat del Estat de Ceará (UECE), situadas dins la vila, son importants centres d'estudis superiors de la region Nòrd-Èst.
