Daniel Howard Yergin (født 6. februar 1947) er en amerikansk forfatter, debattant, økonomiforsker og vinner av Pulitzerprisen. Yergin er formann og var med å stiftet Cambridge Energy Research Associates, et energiforsknings- og konsulentselskap som nå er en del av IHS Inc.. Han er mest kjent for å ha skrevet bøkene The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power; og The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World.

Tidlig liv og utdanning

Yergin ble født i Los Angeles, California, som sønnen til far som var Chicago Tribune-reporter og en mor som var skulptør og maler. Yergin gikk på Beverly Hills High School.^[2] Han fikk en bachelorgrad i økonomi og adnimistrasjon på Yale University i 1968, mens han var styremedlem i Yale Daily News og startet The New Journal. Han fikk sin Ph.D. i internasjonal politikk (1974) fra Cambridge University, hvor han var Marshall Scholar. Han er også æresdoktor fra Colorado School of Mines, University of Houston og University of Missouri.

Fra 1977 til 1980, arbeidet han som foreleser hos Harvard Business School og fram til 1983, som foreleser hos Harvards Kennedy School of Government. Han stiftet Cambridge Energy Research Associates(CERA) i 1982 med kjøp et av et arkivskap fra Goodwill.^[3] I 2004 ble CERA kjøpt opp av selskapet IHS Inc.. I tillegg til å være formann for IHS CERA, er Yergin ogdå visepresident i IHS.^[4]
