Lamnidae ialah keluarga ikan yu, yakni yu makerel atau yu putih.[2] Ikan-ikan keluarga ini terdiri daripada ikan yu yang besar, berenang cepat, dan dapat ditemui di lautan seluruh dunia. Nama keluarga ini dari kata Yunani lamna, yang berarti "ikan pemangsa" dan diilhami dari mahluk legenda Yunani bernama Lamia.[3]

Ikan yu terkait mempunyai hidung tajam, badan seperti cerutu dan bukaan insang yang besar. Sirip dorsal pertama berukuran besar, tinggi, dan membulat. Sirip dorsal kedua dan sirip belakang adalah lebih kecil. Giginya besar sekali, yang saiznya sangat besar dan mungkin dua kali ganda dari ikan yu lain yang sama panjang, termasuk dalam keluarga yang sama. Banyak ikan yu dari keluarga ini ialah antara ikan-ikan perenang tercepat.
