1G

1G merupakan singkatan kepada generasi pertama.

Lebih kurang 20 tahun lalu, telefon bimbit bermula dengan sistem secara selular yang hanya berupaya memindahkan suara seseorang pemanggil dari satu telefon ke satu telefon lain.

Konsep telefon selular bermula pada 1947, apabila penyelidik memerhatikan untuk mencipta telefon kereta. Bagaimanapun tiada teknik yang sepatutnya dapat digunakan ketika itu.

Sistem 1G pertama yang dikenal pasti, beroperasi di Amerika Syarikat (AS) iaitu pada 1978 dengan tahap keupayaan 30 kilohertz (kHz), namun dikatakan kurang berkesan dari segi keperluan radio spektrum dan hanya menempatkan beberapa panggilan terhad dalam satu-satu masa.

Manakala NMT 450 atau Nordic Mobile Telephone System yang menggunakan gelombang 450 MHz, adalah sistem saluran telefon selular secara komersial di Eropah sekitar 1981. Diikuti pula United Kingdom yang mula memperkenalkan sistem TACS atau Total Access Communication System.
