Self Introduction

I lived in Japan for 8 years, originally in Wakayama and then in Osaka.

I have a master's degree from the University of Washington where I studied Japanese history and politics under Kenneth Pyle and a doctorate from Osaka University where my research centered on US-Japan relations, especially the 1954 Daigo Fukuryu Maru incident.

I have a general interest in Japanese art, culture, and history, especially that of the Sengoku period and prewar Japan.
