Talk:Ramie

Additional cleanup needed

@Plantfan, Abductive, GothicGolem29, Blindlynx, Crouch, Swale, and Asukite: I have reviewed this page as part of the new page patrol process, but substantial cleanup is still needed. Much of the content at Boehmeria nivea still appears to be about the Ramie fiber rather than the plant species. In fact, even the lead section still describes the fiber crop rather than the plant species. If the rest of the material is copied over to this article, there would be basically no content left that describes the species. Are there any editors willing to take the lead on merging additional content and fleshing out the Boehmeria nivea article so that it actually describes the species? Right now things are kind of a mess. Zeibgeist (talk) 20:44, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have boldly copied over the rest of the material from Boehmeria nivea, since it all appears to be describing the fiber; feel free to revert if you disagree. Hopefully this will provide a clean slate to expand the article on the species. Zeibgeist (talk) 21:01, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We will also have to go through all of the incoming links to Boehmeria nivea and retarget them to Ramie as necessary (I imagine that this will be the majority of the links). Zeibgeist (talk) 21:07, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Would a DAB page not make more sense given at least there are several unrelated uses. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:13, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No. Look at the Category:Fibers and see the lack of disambig titles. Abductive (reasoning) 02:14, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think creating Ramie (disambiguation) would make sense to avoid the overload of hatnotes. The fiber crop is clearly the primary topic though. If we're going to have an article on it that's separate from the species, it should be at this title. Zeibgeist (talk) 21:17, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Why not move the fiber to Ramie (fiber) and have a DAB at the base name? Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:19, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No. Look at the Category:Fibers and see the lack of disambig titles. Abductive (reasoning) 02:14, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you disagree that the fiber is the primary topic? It seems pretty unambiguous to me. The other pages in the hatnotes are only partial title matches anyway. Zeibgeist (talk) 21:21, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes the given name and Boehmeria nivea, the topic formerly at this title seem likely enough. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:37, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having trouble parsing what you're trying to say here ... Zeibgeist (talk) 22:36, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And me. I assume that editors are now happy to have two articles: one at Ramie on the crop and one at Boehmeria nivea on the species – the latter needs expanding. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:00, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Not really relevant to the above points, but the article was a complete mixup of English and American spellings; I've changed them to consistent English, as a Malaysian-related topic - MPF (talk) 23:03, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Abductive @Crouch, Swale @MPF @Peter coxhead @Zeibgeist: I think creating Ramie (disambiguation) would be good as ramie can refer to the fibre, the moth, the Irish sportsperson and the species. Plantfan (talk) 05:04, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As long as Ramie is the fiber article, and Boehmeria nivea is the species article, should be fine. Good work, by the way. Abductive (reasoning) 05:08, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done Formatting of the dab page may need a bit of cleanup. Zeibgeist (talk) 06:08, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
