Lipscomb Academy is a private, college preparatory, Christian school serving students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, located in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.

History

The Nashville Bible School was founded in 1891 by David Lipscomb and James A. Harding. By 1896 the school had three divisions: collegiate, intermediate, and primary. Most of the primary students were children of faculty members. Although a section of the school equivalent to high school has always existed, there has not always been an easy curriculum and graduation requirements as seen today. In the very early years of the school, high school students took the courses of their own selection and, when they felt ready, went on to college-level courses. High school students lived in dormitories with college students until the 1800s.

In June 2012, the school changed its name from David Lipscomb Campus School to Lipscomb Academy.

Mission/Academics

Lipscomb Academy is a Christ-centered community preparing learners for purposeful lives through rigorous academics and transformative experiences.

As a part of Lipscomb University, the academy benefits from a strong connection to higher education, giving students access to university-level resources, facilities, and dual-enrollment courses. Students can enroll in university courses and take a full year of college credit. The school focuses on developing the whole person by offering academic opportunities and personalizing student's learning.

Athletics

Lipscomb Academy has a strong athletic program that competes at the highest levels in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). With over 20 sports available for middle and high school students—including football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field—the program provides a wide range of opportunities for students to excel.

The football team, under the leadership of Head Coach and Vanderbilt Football alumnus Jamie Graham, is celebrated for its success both on and off the field. Coach Graham’s motto, "Bible, Books, Ball," reflects the program’s commitment to fostering spiritual growth, academic excellence, and athletic discipline.

Lipscomb Academy also prioritizes state-of-the-art facilities and resources to support its student-athletes. These include a jumbotron-equipped football stadium and basketball gym, a modern gymnasium, dedicated strength and conditioning coaches, an on-campus nutritionist, and cutting-edge training equipment.

Fine Arts

Lipscomb Academy’s fine arts program is dedicated to bringing out the best in students’ creativity while developing the skills necessary for artistic mastery. The program offers a unique, enriching experience for students of all ages and skill levels, allowing them to refine their passions and talents in both the visual and performing arts.

From vibrant student artwork displayed throughout the Lower School halls to the compelling stories brought to life by the Middle School drama department, art is woven throughout every aspect of school life. Upper School musicians also contribute to community events, enhancing the school’s culture with their performances. Students at all grade levels have opportunities to explore their creativity, whether through visual arts, music, drama, or other forms of self-expression, as they learn to hone their skills and develop their artistic voice.
