Fluxer is an open source alternative to popular web-IRC client Discord, developed by Fluxer Platform AB based in Sweden. Fluxer aims to be compatible with current API interfaces for Discord, allowing one code-base modification to be used with Fluxer.
Fluxer has become popular in open source communities in early 2026 given it's open source nature, and appeal to pre-existing communities migrating from Discord for various reasons.
Fluxer currently has a desktop app for Linux, macOS and Windows with Progressive Web Apps being used on mobile until appropriate developers can be found.
The platform is free to join, and similarly to Discord has a premium service for $5[1] named Plutonium for those who desire to support the platform. Fluxer also sold a $300 lifetime subscription to Plutonium for the first 1,200 purchasers.
Development
Fluxer is claimed to have been developed for 5 years[2] by Hampus, developer and owner of Fluxer, having initially begun work on it during their time at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.
Fluxer is currently developed by a small team on their GitHub repository and is rapidly developing new features to fit increasing demand from an increasing user-base migrating away from platforms like Discord.
The platform plans on developing into a platform supporting federation (information technology), similar to Matrix (protocol), and IRC. This would remove all monetization features for home-servers which are self-hosted, and would rather allow administrators to add their own tiered systems.
Controversies
Fluxer was initially distributed under a contributor license agreement, which initially turned off a lot of contributions towards the software. This has since been removed via a Git[3] commit on Feburary 18th, 2026.
