Comment: Reviews don't seem to be from very reputable sources. Awesomecat (✉ / ✎) 03:33, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Advanced Installer is a setup packaging tool used by software developers (both commercial and Open Source[1][2]), independent software vendors, MSPs, and IT Professionals to create Windows installation packages such as the classic Windows Installer MSI or the modern MSIX.
History
The product is developed by Caphyon,[3] a Romanian software company founded in 2002. Advanced Installer first appeared in 2003 as a more user-friendly alternative to the available packaging software at the time.
Advanced Installer 2.0 was released in 2004. In the same year, Advanced Installer introduced its first two commercial editions, Java and Professional, in addition to its perpetually free edition.[4]
In March 2018, Microsoft collaborated on the release of the Advanced Installer Express edition.[5] It was the first tool capable of creating MSIX packages until the release of Microsoft's MSIX Packaging Tool six months later.[6]
In the following years, Advanced Installer added integrations for VMware, Docker, GitHub. In 2021, official support to build setup packages for Windows 11 was also included. Version 23.2, which was released in October 2025, has several new features, including a Suite Installer, an updated MSIX Editor, and SBOM Generator integration.
Features
The software includes features for application licensing, deploying updates, repackaging and importing old setups, setup analytics, IIS website installation, SQL database handling, driver and VSTO add-ins[7] installation, which substantially simplify the setup build and deployment tasks. Advanced Installer also includes a Microsoft Visual Studio extension for managing installer projects within the Microsoft Visual Studio solution.[8]
The tool comes with dedicated plugins for build servers like Azure DevOps,[9] Jenkins, TeamCity, and Bamboo.
Advanced Installer competes in the setup packaging industry against InstallShield, WiX[10], and others.
