The 2023–24 season was the 125th season in the history of Watford and their second consecutive season in the Championship. The club participated in the Championship, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup.
^On 1 September, Abbott was recalled from his loan at Chippenham Town, which has been set to run until 5 November.
^On 11 January, Baah was recalled from his season-long loan at Burton.
^On 24 November, Balogun's loan at Bedford Town, initially set to run until 30 November, was extended until 2 January.
^Browne's initial month-long loan at Northwood, beginning in late October, was twice extended for a further month, on 23 November and 12 January.
^On 12 January, Holding's loan at Dover, initially set to run until 9 January, was extended until the end of the season.
^On 18 March, Browne's loan at Walthamstow, initially set to run until 15 March, was extended until the end of April.
^On 22 March, Oretlli's loan at Kings Langley, initially set to run until 17 March, was extended until the end of the season.
Pre-season and friendlies
On 30 May, Watford announced their first two pre-season friendlies, against Boreham Wood and Stevenage.[73] However, the friendly against Stevenage was later cancelled as they were drawn against each other in the 1st round of EFL Cup. [74]

As a Championship club, Watford joined the FA Cup at the third round stage, and were drawn at home against Chesterfield[81][82] and then to Southampton in the fourth round.[83][84]
