The 1980 Iowa Democratic presidential caucuses were held on January 21, 1980, as part of the Democratic Party primaries for the 1980 United States presidential election. 200 total pledged delegates to the 1980 Democratic National Convention were allocated to presidential candidates.[1] Incumbent President Jimmy Carter won the contest.

The Iowa caucuses were the first-in-the-nation Democratic presidential nominating contest, then there were other delegates from the county, district and state convention. President Jimmy Carter won the caucus by a total of 31 pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention. California Governor Jerry Brown did not appear on the ballot.

Delegates

The Iowa caucuses precinct caucuses were held on January 21 and then there were other delegates from the county, district and state convention, for a total of 200 delegates. So the popular vote will be changed.[2]

50 delegates were from the county, 50 delegates were from the district and finally 50 delegates from the state convention, President Jimmy Carter and Senator Ted Kennedy received both popular votes in the county and delegates in the state convention and district, Jimmy Carter received 21 delegates from district and 10 delegates from state convention, got 3,796 popular votes of total in caucuses and county, Ted Kennedy received 23 delegates from district to state convention respectively and got 2,084 popular votes in total at caucuses and county.[3][4][5]

Results

Incumbent President Jimmy Carter won by 31 delegates while U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy received 23 delegates. Another candidate, Uncommitted, received 418 popular votes and 2 delegates from the district.[6] Governor of California Jerry Brown didn't appear on the ballot.[7][8][9]
