Xaiva ist eine Gattung von Krabben innerhalb der Familie der Carcinidae mit drei Arten.[1] Sie besiedeln die Gezeitenzone und den Schelf in Tiefen zwischen 0 und 73 m in der gemäßigten Klimazone des Nordostatlantiks, im tropischen Ostatlantik und in der gemäßigten Klimazone im Süden Afrikas.[2]

Merkmale

Der Carapax ist bis zu 24 mm lang, deutlich breiter als lang und oval. Die Stirn ist unregelmäßig dreieckig. Der Oberrand des Carpus und Propodus der Schreitbeine ist kammartig. Der Finger des letzten Schreitbeins ist spitz-spatelförmig und deutlich breiter als der der übrigen Schreitbeine. Im Gegensatz zur Schwestergattung Portumnus ist der äußere Augenhöhlenwinkel stumpf, steht nur wenig vor und die Augenhöhlen sind V-förmig.[2]
