Carleton County (französisch Comté de Carleton) ist ein County in der kanadischen Provinz New Brunswick.

Das County umfasst eine Fläche von 3312,72 km². Die Einwohnerzahl betrug im Jahr 2021 26.360.[1]

Lage

Das County befindet sich im zentralen Westen der Provinz. Es grenzt im Westen an den US-Bundesstaat Maine. Der Fluss Saint John River durchfließt das Gebiet in südlicher Richtung.

Geschichte und Namensgebung

Das County wurde im Jahr 1831 gegründet.[2] Es entstand aus Teilen des York County.[2] 1844 wurde das Victoria County aus Teilen des Carleton County gegründet.[2] Benannt wurde das County nach Thomas Carleton (1736–1817), Bruder von Guy Carleton und erster Vizegouverneur (Lieutenant-Governor) der britischen Kolonie New Brunswick.[2]
