Proton
Proton je subatomska, nukleonska pozitivna čestica. On je dugovječni hadron nabijen pozitivnim elektricitetom sa formalnom oznakom p. Pored elektrona i neutrona, ubraja se u osnovne čestice od kojih je sastavljen atom.
Proton se sastoji od dva "up"-kvarka i jednog "down"-kvarka. Ova tri valentna kvarka su okružena sa jednim "oblakom" gluona i kvark-antikvark parova. Manje od 20% mase protona otpada na valentne kvarkove, dok ostatak otpada na gluone, koji su prenosioci jakih sila.[1]. Promjer jednog slobodnog protona iznosi oko 1,7 · 10−15m. Proton, kao i neutron spada u barione.
