Gabriel

Gabriel ili Gabrijel ime je jednog od arhanđela (hebrejski: גַּבְרִיאֵל, Gavriʼel; latinski: Gabriel; grčki: Γαβριήλ; arapski: جبريل, Jibrīl, Džibril), a znači "moja je moć Bog", "moj je ratnik Bog", ili "Bog je jak" ili "junak Božji".

U Bibliji se prvi put pojavljuje u knjizi proroka Daniela. U Novom zavjetu Gabriel je taj koji navješćuje Zahariji da će mu se roditi sin, Ivan Krstitelj, a Mariji da će roditi Isusa.

Muslimani vjeruju kako je on bio medij preko kojeg je Muhammedu Bog otkrio Kur'an, a nazivaju ga Džibril – "čisti duh".[1]

Kao zaštitnika poštuju ga glasonoše i pismonoše. Papa Pio XII proglasio ga je 1951. zaštitnikom telekomunikacija: telegrafa, telefona, radija i televizije.
