Edda

Edda[1] (kojem ime dolazi od staronordijske riječi za baku), (edde, priče velike bake), je zajednički naziv za kolekciju epskih pjesma koja opisuje likove i događaje iz nordijske mitologije.

Dijeli se na Poetsku i na Proznu Eddu.

U nordijskoj mitologiji postoji i lik Patuljaste Edde.

Edde se smatraju jednim od najvažnijih djela srednjovjekovne književnosti.

Termin se historijski odnosio samo na Proznu Eddu, ali je ova upotreba pala u nepopularnost zbog zabune s drugim djelom. Oba djela su zabilježena na Islandu tokom 13. stoljeća na islandskom jeziku, iako sadrže materijal iz ranijih tradicionalnih izvora, koji sežu do vikinškog doba. Knjige pružaju glavne izvore za srednjovjekovnu skaldsku tradiciju na Islandu i za nordijsku mitologiju.
