Dimer

Dimeri karboksilnih kiselina.

Dimeri (grč. δι- di = dva + μέρος – meros = dio) su male molekule, spojevi niske molekulske mase, koji se sastoje od dvije identične molekule ili dva identična monomera, povezana jakim ili slabim, kovalentnim vezama ili međumolekulskim silama. Novi spoj ima isti sastav, ali veću molekulsku masu.

Dimer nastaje stvaranjem lanca od dva monomera. Povezivanjem s novim monomerom dimer daje trimer, spajanjem dva dimera nastaje tetramer, itd. Dimer također nastaje i reakcijom dialkohola i dikiseline. Dimerizacijom se molekulski entitet A transformira u molekulski entitet A2.[1]

Kada su dvije povezane monomerne molekule identične (npr. A-A) to je homodimer, a heterodimer nastaje kada nisu identične (npr. A-B). Obratni proces od dimerizacije često se naziva disocijacijom. Kada se u dimere vežu dva suprotno nabijena iona, zovu se Bjerrumovi parovi.[2]
