Koloni Tanjung Harapan kemudian menjadi bagian dari Imperium Britania dan diberi hak untuk memerintah sendiri pada tahun 1872. Pada tahun 1910, koloni ini disatukan dengan tiga koloni lainnya untuk membentuk Uni Afrika Selatan, dan namanya kemudian diganti menjadi "Provinsi Tanjung Harapan".[3]
