Janthina janthina adalah sebuah spesies siput laut holoplankton dalam famili Epitoniidae.[2]

Spesies ini ditemukan di seluruh dunia pada perairan hangat iklim tropis dan iklim sedang, mengapung di permukaan.[3] Lebih spesifiknya, spesies ini ditemukan di wilayah tropis dan subtropis Samudra Atlantik, Samudra Hindia, dan Samudra Pasifik.[4] Umumnya, mereka ditemukan dalam kelompok besar, dan terkadang mereka terdampar di pantai-pantai karena tertiup angin kencang.[3] Spesies ini merupakan bagian dari neuston, yaitu organisme yang hidup pada atau di dekat permukaan air, karena ukuran mereka yang relatif besar. Siput ini memiliki veliger, atau larva perenang bebas, tetapi dewasanya tidak berenang serta tidak mampu membuat rakit mereka kecuali bila berada di permukaan, tempat gelembung udara dapat ditemukan.[5]
