Pelontrus là một chi cá biển thuộc họ Anthiadidae. Chi này được lập bởi J. L. B. Smith vào năm 1961. Dựa theo quan hệ phát sinh loài của Tang và Chen (2025), chi Pelontrus được khôi phục từ tình trạng đồng nghĩa với Plectranthias.[1]

Từ nguyên

Smith không nêu rõ hàm ý cũng như từ nguyên của tên chi, nhưng có thể bắt nguồn từ pelon trong tiếng Tây Ban Nha nghĩa là "hói", hàm ý (nếu đúng) có lẽ đề cập đến phần mõm và hàm trên không có vảy ở P. morgansi, một đặc điểm mà Smith sử dụng để phân biệt chi này với Anthias.[2]

Phân bố

Các loài trong chi Pelontrus có phân bố tập trung ở khu vực Ấn Độ Dương - Thái Bình Dương. Pelontrus đều được tìm thấy ở vùng nước tương đối sâu.
