Propeta

Para sa ibang mga gamit, tingnan ang Propeta.

Ang propeta ay isang taong inaangking pinili ng Diyos upang maghatid ng mga propesiya o hula sa mga tao. Sa Tanakh at sa Bibliya, tinatawag silang "mga tagapaglingkod" ng Diyos. Kung minsan, binibigyan sila ng Diyos ng isang mensaheng hinggil sa kung ano ang mangyayari sa hinaharap. May dalawang uri ng mga propeta: ang tunay o mga totoong propeta at ang hindi tunay o mga huwad na propeta. Palaging nagsasabi ang tunay na mga propeta na matapat ang Diyos sa kanyang mga pangako sa tao at nangangaral sa taong magtiwala at sundin ang Diyos, samantalang nagbibigay ang hindi tunay na mga propeta ng mga mensaheng hindi naman talaga nanggagaling mula sa Diyos.

Sa Hudaismo

Sa Hudaismo, sa bahaging Nevi’im ng Tanakh matatagpuan at mababasa ang mga mensahe ng mga propeta.

Kristyanismo

Sa Kristiyanismo at sa Bibliya, itinuturing si Hesus bilang isang "dakilang propetang" dumating sa mundo na nagsiwalat ng kung sino ang Diyos at kung gaano kamahal ng Diyos ang tao.[1]

Sa Bibliya pa rin, karaniwang tumutukoy ang salita para sa ilang mga tao o kalalakihang binabanggit sa Lumang Tipan. Sa Bagong Tipan, nabanggit din ang mga taong propetang nasa loob ng maaga pang "simbahan". Katulad na lamang ni San Juan Bautista, na tinawag ding isang propeta.[2]
