Ang Polynesia ay isang malawak na kapuluan sa Pasipiko. Matatagpuan dito ang Hawaii, Tahiti at marami pa. Iba naman ang Micronesia at Melanesia sa Polynesia.

Ang Polynesia ay binubuo ng mga pulo mula Gitnang Pasipiko hanggang sa New Zealand. Sakop nito ang mga pulo tulad ng Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu. Parehas sila ng balat ng mga Pilipino na kayumanggi.

Pangingisda, pagtatanim ng breadfruit, taro, saging, at niyog ang mga pangunahing hanapbuhay rito. Mahuhusay sila sa paggawa ng mga bangka na Catamaran. Ang catamaran ay isang uri ng bangka na may dalawang ‘hull’ o katawan na mas mabilis kaysa sa pagkaraniwang bangka.[1] Ito ay kanilang ginagamit sa pangangalakal at sa paghahanap.

Etimolohiya

Galing ang salitang Polynesia sa mga salitang Griyegong πολύς (polús) na ang ibig-sabihin ay marami at νῆσος (nēsos) na ang ibig-sabihin naman ay pulo na nangangahulugang "maraming isla".
