Kudlit

Ang kudlit o apostrope (sagisag: o kaya ’) ay isang uri ng pang-itaas na bantas[1] na ipinanghahalili o pamalit sa inalis na titik mula sa isang salita.[2] Sa baybayin, ito ang bantas na nagpapabago ng tunog ng lahat ng mga pantig, ngunit hindi kasali ang a, e, i, o, at u. Kapag inilagay ang kudlit sa ibabaw ng isang panitig, mababago ang pantig mula sa pagtatapos na may isang -a na magiging isang nagtatapos sa -e o kaya -i. Kapag inilagay sa ilalim ng panitik, ang tunog ay magtatapos sa isang -o o kaya -u. May isa pang uri ng kudlit na umiiral sa baybaying ginamit sa Doctrina Cristiana: ang tinatawag na birama o virama. Isa itong krus na nagiging sanhi ng pantig upang maging isang katinig.[2] Ginagamit din ang ganitong uri ng bantas para sa talampakan, isang yunit para sa sukat ng haba.
