Inabel

Mga inabel na tela

Ang inabel,[1] na tinatawag minsan na abel Iloco o abel lamang,[2] ay isang tradisyon sa paghahabi na katutubo sa mga Ilokano sa Hilagang Luzon sa Pilipinas.[3][4] Hinahangad ang telang niyari nito sa mga industriya ng moda at disenyong panloob dahil sa lambot, pagkamatibay, kaangkupan sa klimang tropikal, at para sa mga disenyo na di-marangya.[5][6]

Dahil sa pagkabihira ng mga bihasang manghahabi at pagkabihira ng mga likas na materyales tulad ng sinulid-bulak na yaring-kamay, naging bihira na ang telang ito. Subalit nagpapatuloy pa rin ang mga komunidad ng paghahabi sa mga bayan ng Bangar sa La Union; Santiago, Santa, Bantay, at Vigan sa Ilocos Sur; at Pinili, Paoay, at Sarrat sa Ilocos Norte.[7]

Hinango ang salita mula sa lokal na pandiwa para sa "habi", "abel" at ang pangngalang Ilokano na "inabel", na tumutukoy sa anumang hinabing tela. Inangkop na ito upang tumukoy sa tiyak na uri ng tela na katutubo sa rehiyon ng Ilocos.[8]
